Benevolent Irish Society of Prince Edward Island Launches their Historical Membership Database

The Benevolent Irish Society of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce the launch of its online Historical Membership Database, a searchable, accurate record of the men and women who have historically been part of the support of our society across the generations.

In August of 1951, a fire claimed a significant number of the society's historical records, leaving a gap in our written heritage. In the years since that time, a number of the destroyed records were recovered from other sources, and the society has been recently working to digitize these carefully, a process that continues today. The BIS Historical Membership Database is the result of that effort: a growing archive that honours what was lost and preserves what remains.

The public access allows the public to browse and search our historical members, offering a valuable resource for family researchers, genealogists, and those with an interest in the Irish heritage of Prince Edward Island. Historical member profiles include details such as county and surname of Irish connection, occupation, and place of birth among other information.
